ISIW Project

Here is a moodboard on the type of isiw I want to create, Massive robots in unnatural and creepy places, most of them being quite innocent, yet incredibly unsettling also.

These are the list of sounds I want for my ISIW soundscape:

Of the sounds listed, I managed to get a handful of them, the ones being:

-Wind Blowing

-Crunching leaves/Rustling trees

-Rain

-Metal creaking

-Birds

The folder below contains the sounds:

These are my thumbnail drawings of my ISIW piece, the ones with a small star are the ones I like best and will work on to create a final idea with.

I really liked what Simon Stalenhag did with his work, which included a massive broken down cat robot that I found unique because robots, normally are creepy but with a more cartoony look it gives it a sense of innocence and confuses the viewer and make them think about whether or not its evil. It also seems to bring a sense of life to a scene with its bright colors.

This was very early on in the creation of my ISIW project, I was originally going to create a forest scene where a giant broken down robot is laying down in the middle of the forest, also the trees are layed out to where it leads the eyes gradually towards the middle of the screen, where the main part is going on, then Luca and I decided that this wasn't what I wanted to do.

For the new version of the ISIW, I looked for a reference image I could use, and this one above is what I found and liked.

This is a very early layout for my isiw, it just shows each of the layers, and where everything will be, taking a lot of inspiration from the reference image, also I started adding some detail into the grass/trees and lighting.

This is a lot further into the creation of my ISIW, so much more details have been added into almost everything, I changed the background color, and even removed the robot arm, I even darken some of the areas to create a sense of more depth and shows the viewer how far each part is,

The Final Product of the isiw, I am actually quite proud of, I added lighting, and polished and finalised everything, I added details to the trees in the background.

Now that the 2D concept is completed, I brought it into after effects to give it an animation and make it move and also include a soundscape to it. I did use a few of my own sounds, but due to struggles, I had to get sounds from online because I hadn't gotten many to fit my work and because of lockdown, I couldn't go and get some more of my own, the sounds I did have were a lot of rain/water sounds. I didn't necessarily edit the sounds, but I brought it together into after effects and arranged the sounds how I wanted them. (Sound Editing and Creation was done in Synoptic)

What I did to animate it was, gradually moving each layer towards the left, the closer the layers the slower they moved to make it look like the camera was panning around the scene.

I had to adjust a couple things in after effects such as, making some layer larger so that when it moves it won't just cut off, also I had to move some of the layers, after enlarging them, towards the left of the screen, with about a quarter of the layer off the screen so when it moves it will gradually move and appear on screen. The quality of the video isn't the best because it was originally over 5gb so I had to reduce the resolution a lot and make it less fps.
