3D Match Move and Comp

Writer's picture: Deano SmithDeano Smith

We were put into three different groups, and each one went out and filmed a video of an ATV with a Black Magic Camera, which is a camera that moves with you and stays at the same position when moved.

This is both videos read into nuke, I set the frame range to 285-530 as those were the only frames I needed, from one side of the ATV to the other.

I then rendered the take of the ATV which created a new node with just the frames I needed, I also undistorted the checkerboard so the video will look correct.

Here is the checkerboard above and below during its un-distortion process.

Whenever I was to switch computers, I needed to delete in and re read in all the videos.

These are the specs of the camera that we used to film.

Now this is the beginning or the tracking process, each yellow point marks a part of the setting, the ground, trees, atv, fences, etc

Then, I changed the settings of the tracker to find any anomalies or points that weren't very strong or needed and delete them. Then after I went through the whole video and deleted and point that was linked to the ground.

Now enabling 3D view will show the scene but without the video, and will show all the points in the video.

Now enabling vertex selection go and try to delete every single point in the scene, that isn't part of the Vehicle.

This is what mine looked like after delete all the surrounding points. It looks just like the ATV in the video.

Now insert a cube into the scene and read in a checkerboard node to it.

Then manipulate and change the square so that it fits perfectly into the back of the ATV.

This is it with the video on.

This is pretty much the whole thing completed, I then Wrote out ONLY the camera movement and square positioning, since that is all I needed.
